GTA 6 Extended Look: How the Biggest Creators Reacted
Within 72 hours of An Extended Look going up, the channels that shape how Grand Theft Auto is discussed had each put out their breakdown. Seven of them are worth your time, and they do not all watch the same video.
The tech read: Digital Foundry
Digital Foundry’s analysis carries the title question “The Most Impressive Real-Time Game Graphics Yet?”, and the video answers it in the affirmative with the caveats you would expect from them. Their frame analysis, which they published the day after the Extended Look, described the footage as running at roughly 4K upscaled from 1440p at a broadly stable 30 frames per second, and flagged that a 60fps mode looks unlikely even on PS5 Pro. Rockstar has not addressed frame rate publicly.
The detail sweep: IGN and DarkViperAU
IGN went for volume with “99 Details in the GTA 6 Extended Look”, which had passed 630,000 views by August 30. DarkViperAU, whose channel is built on knowing Rockstar’s games mechanically, did a full breakdown that reached nearly 500,000 views in two days and is the better watch if you care about systems rather than set dressing.
The reactions: AngryJoe, MrBossFTW, TGG
AngryJoeShow’s live reaction, posted the night of release, was the most-watched pure reaction at 450,000 views. MrBossFTW and TGG, the two dedicated GTA news channels, both streamed live reactions and breakdowns. TGG’s carries an extra thread: the channel was among the creators invited to Rockstar North for a preview, so its commentary has a briefing behind it.
- AngryJoeShow: live reaction, August 27. About 450,000 views in three days. Watch
- MrBossFTW: live reaction and breakdown, August 27. Watch
- TGG: live reaction and breakdown, with a Rockstar North visit behind it. Watch
- GhillieMaster: "30+ Details You Missed", August 30, the slow and careful one. Watch
What they agreed on
Three things come up in every one of these regardless of the channel’s angle. The wanted system, which press briefings described as tracking face, clothing, vehicle and whether the two leads are together. The switch between Jason and Lucia mid-mission. And the sheer amount of non-criminal activity in the footage: kayaking, diving, jet skiing, fishing, basketball, the gym, dirt bikes, mini golf, pool, skydiving.
Where they split is on the 30fps question, which only Digital Foundry treated as a story, and on how much of the footage is representative of moment-to-moment play versus a curated reel. Nobody outside Rockstar can answer the second one yet.
Seven breakdowns, one consensus and one open question. The consensus is that the systems are real. The open question is what an ordinary hour looks like, and only November answers that.ALLGTA World
