Take-Two's Q1 Results and What They Say About GTA 6
Take-Two Interactive published its fiscal first-quarter 2027 results on August 7, reporting net bookings of $1,385.9 million, down 3 percent year over year, while reaffirming its full-year outlook of $8.0 to $8.2 billion. The most closely watched line wasn’t a number at all: CEO Strauss Zelnick called early GTA 6 preorder demand “unprecedented and astonishing.”
The numbers
For the quarter ended June 30, 2026, Take-Two reported GAAP net revenue of $1,533.9 million and net bookings of $1,385.9 million, compared with roughly $1.42 billion a year earlier, according to the company’s earnings release carried by BusinessWire. Despite the year-over-year dip, the company reiterated its fiscal 2027 net bookings guidance of $8.0 to $8.2 billion, a range Take-Two has held steady since setting it. Zelnick’s official comment on the quarter: “Our excellent first quarter results reflect the power of our portfolio and disciplined execution across all of our labels.”
Beyond GTA, Take-Two’s biggest contributors to the quarter’s net bookings included NBA 2K, the Grand Theft Auto series more broadly, Toon Blast, Match Factory, Empires & Puzzles, Red Dead Redemption, Words With Friends, Color Block Jam, WWE 2K, Zynga Poker, and Toy Blast.
What Zelnick actually said about preorders
GTA 6 preorders opened June 25, meaning they were live for only five days of the quarter covered by these results. Take-Two did not disclose a specific preorder figure, on the earnings call reported by Variety and Shacknews. What Zelnick did say was pointed: “I can say that the level of pre-orders is unprecedented and astonishing, and we’re very grateful for that.” Asked how the results compared with the company’s own internal projections, he said preorders had exceeded them “vastly.” He also noted that the mix of preorders is “skewing to the premium edition,” meaning more buyers are opting for the $99.99 Ultimate Edition over the $79.99 Standard Edition than Take-Two expected. On pricing itself, Zelnick said he believes Rockstar “got it right.”
Why this matters for GTA 6’s launch
Take-Two’s decision to reaffirm its $8.0 to $8.2 billion outlook, rather than revise it, is itself a signal: the company built that guidance around a November 19, 2026 launch and hasn’t walked it back. That date has already moved twice, first from a 2025 window announced alongside the first trailer to May 26, 2026, and then to its current November 19, 2026 slot. As of this earnings call, no further delay has been announced, and Take-Two used the call specifically to reaffirm November 19.
It’s worth being precise about what wasn’t said. Zelnick’s “unprecedented and astonishing” comment describes the level of demand relative to Take-Two’s own internal expectations, not a public sales figure, and the company has been careful not to attach a number to it. Any specific preorder total circulating online, whether in copies or dollars, did not come from Take-Two on this call.
