GTA 6 Extended Look: Rockstar's August 27 Announcement
Three weeks before the footage itself arrived, Rockstar Games posted Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look Coming August 27 to its YouTube channel, on August 6, 2026. The video did what its title says and little more, but the announcement around it was unusual enough to matter.
Rockstar’s own wording set out the distribution plan: the Extended Look would premiere on Netflix on Thursday, August 27 at 3 p.m. ET, then launch on the official Rockstar Games YouTube channel and the Grand Theft Auto VI site at 9 p.m. ET the same day. A six-hour window in which a Rockstar marketing piece lived on a streaming service before reaching Rockstar’s own channels has no precedent in how the studio has released trailers before.
The framing was also deliberate. Rockstar called it an extended look, not a third trailer, and has never used the word “trailer” for it. That distinction held: what arrived on August 27 was a 26-minute, 48-second piece of in-game PlayStation 5 footage, far longer and looser than the two trailers that preceded it.
The announcement landed a little under three months before the November 19, 2026 launch, and it is the point at which Rockstar’s marketing shifted from short cut trailers to showing the game at length.
The footage itself, and what press coverage on the day reported about its systems, is covered in our page on An Extended Look.
