GTA 5 Easter Eggs: Chiliad Mystery, Ghost, UFOs and Wrecks

By ALLGTA World Staff · September 30, 2026

GTA 5’s best-known easter eggs are the Mount Chiliad mural, the ghost of Jolene Cranley-Evans on Mount Gordo, the UFOs that appear after 100% completion, and a set of underwater secrets: a sealed hatch, a sunken UFO, a weighted body and several wrecks. Each one below has its exact in-game coordinates and a link that opens it on our 3D GTA 5 map, where the Mysteries layer marks them all.

Coordinates are the game’s own, in metres: X grows to the east, Y to the north, and a negative Z is depth below sea level. Unless noted, these are story mode secrets; GTA Wiki lists the ghost, the hatch and the underwater UFO in GTA Online as well.

The Mount Chiliad mystery

Take the cable car to the summit of Mount Chiliad, the highest point in San Andreas at about 806 metres, and look at the wall inside the station. A mural shows the mountain surrounded by symbols, among them an eye and a figure that looks a lot like a jetpack. It became the most debated mystery in the game.

What the clues around it do lead to, according to GTA Wiki: “COME BACK WHEN YOUR STORY IS COMPLETE” is written on the back of the observation deck, a large red eye is painted on the mountain below it, and matching symbols appear at the Beam Me Up art site in Sandy Shores, at a small silo in the Grand Senora Desert and at the Altruist Camp. Together they describe how to see a UFO over the summit: reach 100% completion, stand on the observation deck at 3am, in a storm. Our 100% guide lists what that takes.

The jetpack never appeared in story mode. GTA Wiki says data for one existed in the game files but was never finished. GTA Online later closed the loop in its own way: The Doomsday Heist, released on December 12, 2017, put the same mural on a wall of the Mount Chiliad Launch Facility, and added the Thruster, a jetpack-like vehicle.

The ghost of Mount Gordo

Between 23:00 and midnight, a pale woman floats above the cliffs of Mount Gordo’s eastern peak. She is Jolene Cranley-Evans. While she is visible, the word “JOCK” is written in blood on the rock beneath her, and in the enhanced versions you can hear her voice around the campsite at the foot of the mountain. Get too close and she fades out.

The backstory is in the game’s fictional press: an article from The Senora Beacon suggests that her husband, the stuntman turned politician Jock Cranley, pushed her from the cliffs in 1978, and that her death was ruled an accident (GTA Wiki). The campsite below is the best viewpoint; in the enhanced versions, aiming a weapon in first person lets you get closer without her disappearing.

The UFOs

Three flying saucers only appear once you have 100% completion (GTA Wiki):

  • Over Fort Zancudo, far above Hangar A1. The words “SEGREGATE AND REARRANGE” are printed on it: rearrange the letters of “segregate” and you get “easter egg”. Between 3am and 4am, a spinning green light on one of the base buildings marks the spot. Getting close means entering the military base’s airspace, which our Fort Zancudo guide covers.
  • Over Beam Me Up in Sandy Shores, with FIB markings.
  • Over Mount Chiliad, also with FIB markings, only at 3am in a storm.

The fourth needs no completion at all: a saucer lies on the seabed off North Point, near Paleto Bay, about 111 metres down, covered in plants. GTA Wiki ties it to the craft that, according to the hippie Omega, scattered the spaceship parts around the state.

GTA Online has played with the same idea since. For Halloween 2020, Rockstar’s Newswire reported “a downed unidentified flying object” hauled off to Fort Zancudo, the setting of a new Business Battle.

Underwater secrets

The ocean around San Andreas holds most of the remaining secrets. Several wrecks also hide briefcases of cash, weapons and armour (GTA Wiki).

  • The Hatch. A sealed steel hatch about 170 metres down, off the east coast, east of Davis Quartz and south-east of Humane Labs. It is a tribute to the hatch in the TV series Lost. Near it you hear knocking in tap code, which spells out “Hey you never call, how’d you fancy going bowling?”, a nod to Roman Bellic’s phone calls in GTA IV. It sits at crush depth: GTA Wiki warns that getting too close destroys the submersible.
  • The sunken body. Off the Lago Zancudo coast lies the body of a woman tied to cinder blocks, a sack over her head. No mission ever explains it (Game Rant).
  • The “sea monster”. Off Banham Canyon, a huge skeleton lies half buried in the sand. Players long took it for a sea monster; it is a whale skeleton.
  • The sunken tank. East of Humane Labs, a sunken ship spilled military hardware across the seabed: Barracks trucks, missiles, and tanks resembling the Rhino and a Second World War Panzer II (GTA Wiki). One of the 27 story mode peyote plants grows among the wreckage.
  • The Humane Labs tunnel. An underwater exhaust shaft leads from the sea into Humane Labs. Michael goes in this way during the story mission Monkey Business, and crews swim out through it in GTA Online’s Humane Labs Raid (GTA Wiki).
  • The container ship. East of the NOOSE headquarters lies a container ship built on the same model as the SS Bulker.
  • The FlyUS jet. A passenger jet rests on the seabed off Paleto Bay, a short swim from one of the story mode peyote plants.

One more, for the patient

The strangest secret involves peyote. After 100% completion and all 27 plants, golden peyote turns you into Bigfoot, and eating them in the right order ends in a fight with the Beast at the airplane scrapyard near Sandy Shores. Players worked it out; Rockstar never announced it. Our peyote guide has the full sequence.
