Fastest Cars in GTA 5 and GTA Online (Tested, 2026)
As of October 21, 2026, the fastest car in GTA Online by top speed is the Grotti Cartuccia GT at 139 mph (223.7 km/h) without Hao’s Special Works upgrades, and the Bravado Banshee GTS (HSW) at 172.5 mph (277.6 km/h) with them. Top speed is not the same as being quick in a race, though: around a lap, the fastest supercar is the Vapid FMJ MK V (HSW) at 0:54.704. In GTA 5 story mode, the Truffade Z-Type has the highest top speed and the Progen T20 the best lap time.
Every figure on this page comes from community testing by Broughy1322, not from Rockstar, which does not publish measured top speeds or lap times.
Where the numbers come from
Broughy1322 has tested GTA vehicles since 2013, and his results are published on GTACars.net. His published method for top speed: each fully upgraded car does five runs over a measured 0.2 miles on one of the flattest, straightest roads in the game, the times are read frame by frame, averaged, and the speed is rounded to the nearest 0.25 mph. Lap times are the best single lap of each fully upgraded car around the same test track.
He also warns that the in-game stat bars and non-digital speedometers are inaccurate, which is why a car that looks fastest in the showroom often is not. Two more rules for reading the tables:
- HSW (Hao’s Special Works) upgrades exist only on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC (Enhanced). On other versions, ignore the HSW rows.
- Non-raceable vehicles are left out. The Vigilante (146.75 mph) and the Arena War versions of the Annis ZR380 (142 mph) are faster in a straight line but cannot be used in standard races.

The top two both arrived in July 2026 with The Kortz Center Heist update. The Cartuccia GT sells for GTA$2,395,000 and the Veleno GT for GTA$3,090,000 at Legendary Motorsport, according to GTACars.net. The Ocelot Pariah, at GTA$1,420,000, remains the cheap way to go very fast.

HSW upgrades are bought from Hao’s Special Works at the LS Car Meet, on top of the car’s normal upgrades. GTA+ members can also fit them in The Vinewood Club garage workshop and in a Mansion’s Vehicle Workshop.
Super class: fastest lap times
For racing, lap time is the number that matters. These are the best raceable Supers in Broughy1322’s testing:

Without HSW, the Progen Emerus is still the quickest Super around a lap, 0.15 seconds ahead of the FMJ MK V. The only car with a faster tested lap than the HSW FMJ MK V is the Benefactor BR8, an open-wheel racer, at 0:54.555.

This is where top speed misleads. The Cartuccia GT, fastest of all in a straight line, laps in 1:00.777, behind both the Pariah and the Banshee GTS. The Itali GTO, which only reaches 128 mph, is the fastest Sports car on track without HSW. If you claimed the free Penaud La Coureuse from September’s Weekly Challenge reward, the HSW version is the second quickest Sports car in the game.
GTA 5 story mode
Story mode only has a fraction of the Online garage. GTACars.net lists 57 cars that can be acquired in story mode, and none of the newest ones. Among them:

The famous Adder has the second highest top speed but one of the slowest laps of the group. For a single-player race, the T20, Osiris and Zentorno are the ones to buy from the in-game Legendary Motorsport site, then upgrade at Los Santos Customs. Not tested yet
Updated October 21, 2026: no new car has been added to GTA Online since the Pegassi Horus (Super), released to GTA+ members on September 10 and to everyone on September 17, 2026. October brought Halloween content and a free GTA+ claim of an existing bike, the Pegassi Oppressor, but no new vehicle, according to Rockstar’s patch notes and Newswire. As of October 21, GTACars.net still lists no lap time or top speed for the Horus or its HSW version, so it is not ranked here yet.
