GTA 6: Everything Officially Confirmed So Far

Grand Theft Auto 6 has moved from teaser trailers to a full 26:48 gameplay showcase, and Rockstar has confirmed the essentials: a release date, two platforms, two editions, a protagonist duo, and a setting. This guide collects everything officially confirmed, sourced directly from Rockstar and Take-Two’s own statements, with a clear list at the end of what’s genuinely still unknown.

Release date: November 19, 2026

GTA 6 launches on November 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar’s official site displays the platform note “Plays Best On PlayStation 5.” Pre-orders opened June 25, 2026, and digital preload begins November 12, 2026, exactly one week before launch. This date has been through two public delays since the game was first teased in December 2023, first shifting to a spring 2026 window, then landing on November 19, 2026. Take-Two reaffirmed that date as recently as August 7, 2026, alongside its latest earnings report.

Updated October 21, 2026: Rockstar’s launch trailer on October 15 restated November 19. Rockstar’s support page specifies that pre-loading opens at local midnight on November 12. The game is rated ESRB Mature 17+ and PEGI 18. No global unlock time has been announced; store listings point to midnight by region, as our launch day guide explains.

Platforms: PS5 and Xbox Series X|S only

Launch is confirmed for exactly two platforms, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. No PS4 or Xbox One version has been announced, and none should be assumed.

PC status: not announced

As of October 21, 2026, Rockstar still has not announced a PC version of GTA 6, in any form. There’s no confirmed release date, no confirmed storefront, whether that’s Steam, the Epic Games Store, or Rockstar’s own launcher, and no system requirements published anywhere official. For context, GTA 5 followed the same pattern: consoles first in September 2013, PC about eighteen months later in April 2015. That gap is a useful historical reference point, not a promise; Rockstar hasn’t confirmed any PC timeline for GTA 6, and any specific PC release date you see circulating is not official.

Updated October 21, 2026: GamesBeat reported on October 13, citing four unnamed sources, that a PC version is planned for the first quarter of 2027. Rockstar has not commented. Xbox’s chief strategy officer also denied that the game would stream to PC at launch, and the ESRB rating covers PS5 and Xbox Series only.

Price and editions

GTA 6 ships in two editions, both confirmed on the PlayStation Store as of late August 2026:

The Ultimate Edition is digital only and adds 16 exclusive items unlocked across the story, from unique vehicles and weapons to dedicated in-game shops. The Standard Edition is the only version available physically, and Rockstar has confirmed that physical copies ship as a code in the box only, with no disc included, specifically to support the November 12 preload. Anyone who pre-orders either edition before November 20, 2026, gets the Vintage Vice City Pack free, and digital pre-orders additionally include one month of GTA+. Protagonists and setting

Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos are GTA 6’s protagonist duo. Lucia is the first female character to headline a mainline Grand Theft Auto game as a full protagonist. The story follows the pair through the state of Leonida, Rockstar’s fictional version of Florida, centered on Vice City. Rockstar has confirmed six official regions that make up the state, and eight official characters connected to Jason and Lucia’s world. Rockstar’s own pitch for the story centers on a heist that goes wrong, dropping Jason and Lucia into a criminal conspiracy that stretches across all of Leonida, and forcing the pair to depend on each other more than either expected. Beyond that framing, Rockstar has kept specific plot details under wraps, and this guide won’t speculate beyond what the studio itself has said.

Updated October 21, 2026: in Bloomberg’s making-of, Rockstar’s development leads said the story’s skeleton, Jason and Lucia as a criminal couple, was in place by the end of 2019, and that the two can do open-world activities together, from meeting up by text to hitting the gym or robbing a store side by side.

Rockstar’s statement on the leaked footage

On August 26, 2026, the day before the Extended Look premiere, Rockstar issued its first public comment on gameplay clips that had leaked online earlier in the month. The studio called the situation heartbreaking for its team and said it wasn’t how it intended fans to see the game after such a long wait. In the same statement, Rockstar apologized for the length of time between reveals and confirmed the game is nearly finished. It’s a rare instance of the studio commenting directly on unreleased footage, and it lines up with the confirmed November 19 date rather than suggesting any change to it.

Updated October 21, 2026: Rockstar went further on October 14, in a day-long interview with Bloomberg. Its leaders described the codename Project Americas, two delays, a headcount of 4,711 across 12 offices as of August 2026, and a game still being adjusted in its final months. There is no “Trailer 3.” The August 27, 2026 release is officially titled Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look, and Rockstar describes it as captured entirely from in-game footage running on PlayStation 5. It premiered on Netflix first, then went up on Rockstar’s own YouTube channel and official site six hours later the same day. The Launch Trailer, also captured in-game on PS5, debuts Flower in a Hurricane by Justice, whom Rockstar names as the composers of the game’s original score. Take-Two’s confirmed numbers

Take-Two Interactive, GTA 6 publisher Rockstar’s parent company, reported its fiscal Q1 2027 results on August 7, 2026, covering the quarter that included GTA 6’s pre-order launch. Net Bookings for the quarter came in at $1,385.9 million, down 3% year over year, on GAAP net revenue of $1,533.9 million. Take-Two reiterated full-year fiscal 2027 Net Bookings guidance of $8.0 to $8.2 billion across its whole portfolio, not GTA 6 alone. CEO Strauss Zelnick described the pre-order response as unprecedented, though Take-Two has not disclosed an actual pre-order count; he also noted that pre-orders have skewed toward the pricier Ultimate Edition despite the higher cost.

What is NOT confirmed

Plenty of specific claims circulate about GTA 6 that Rockstar has not actually confirmed. Treat all of the following as unknown until Rockstar states otherwise:

• Voice cast: no actor has been announced for any character, including Jason and Lucia. Rockstar historically withholds this information until close to release.
• The full radio lineup: Updated October 21, 2026: Rockstar has named six stations (Cocoteo FM, Back Country Radio, AfroBank FM, The Chamber 106.6, Flash FM, Dirty South Classics), confirmed the series’ first podcasts and on-foot listening, and announced a 34-track soundtrack album. The total number of stations, the podcast lineup and the hosts’ real names are not confirmed by Rockstar.
• PC specs and release window: unannounced, as covered above. There’s no confirmed storefront, price, or hardware target, only an unconfirmed report pointing to early 2027.
• Online / multiplayer content: the console store listings describe GTA 6 as a single-player experience, and Rockstar has not announced any online mode, nor any monetization plan for one. Bloomberg reports an online component is expected in 2027; Rockstar’s developers declined to discuss it.
• Frame rate and performance modes beyond the basics: Rockstar has not published final resolution or performance mode details for either console. The PlayStation Store labels the game PS5 Pro Enhanced, without saying what that means.
• Map size in square miles: no official area has been published. Updated October 21, 2026: Rockstar has given comparisons only, three times the playable area of Red Dead Redemption 2 in the New York Times previews and twice GTA 5’s map according to Rockstar North’s Aaron Garbut in Game Informer.
• Upgrade pricing outside the US: the US Xbox Store lists the Standard-to-Ultimate upgrade at $20.00, but Rockstar hasn’t published regional prices and the PlayStation Store shows none yet.
• Download size and unlock time: neither Rockstar nor the console stores have published a download size or a single global release time.
